Description
Do you know that the baobab tree only flowers once a year (twice on one species) after the rains and usually blooms at full moon timing itself perfectly with the lunar cycle.
Rarely seen by humans, this flower opens up just as the sun sets and by sunrise will already have started to wilt where they will be happily harvested by birds and bats.
Imagine! A baobab as iconic as the African elephant flowers for 12 hours every 365days. Nature is astounding.
We have a young baobab at the bottom of our garden. Its apparently 20years old this year. The year it is expected to start flowering. We will be watching
Footnote:
Traditionally it has been said that if you pick a baobab flower you will be eaten by a pride of lions. (*leave nature to be nature )
